Salami's movie organizer was originally started as an experiment to organize movies using junctions. It wasn't really suiting my needs, so the main purpose of the software is now the generation of mymovies.xml files. If you still want the genre-junctions as an addon, you can activate them through the configuration. This feature is risky and might be removed from future releases.

However, the usage of the junction based organizing needs a predefined folder concept. I will use the following folders for all my guides:

  • d:\movies\all
    • Every movie needs to have it's own folder under this directory.
  • d:\movies\genres
    • SMO will automatically create subfolders here for every genre available. Each movie will get a junction under the affected genres-folders that link back to the real location. This folder can be a subfolder of your main movie-folder.

Let's take a real example: Sin City.

  • Put the backup of your movie in a new folder: d:\movies\all\Sin City (2005)
  • SMO will create all genre subfolders, such as d:\movies\genres\Action.
  • You will now have a junction to your real movie folder: d:\movies\genres\Action\Sin City (2005) that shows the same files as your real folder. Same goes for all other genres.

If you have settled on your folder structure, you can set the necessary options through SMO's config menu:
